Ripped Abs 101

Your approach to having ripped abs depend on your gender, your age, your height, your nutrition and the type of exercise you do.

You should really avoid imitating others in your search for ripped abs workouts and begin with your body.  There are five basic elements that impact how quickly you can have your ripped abs.

Age and metabolism -  As we get older our metabolism slows down. An 18 year old will burn more calories just sitting around than a 50 year old. And age should bring the wisdom to understand that take advantage of this instead of letting it dominate our thinking.

Size and calorie burning  – A 6’4″ will burn more calories than a 5″1′. It should be obvious but I have married clients who tell me, I prepare the meals and have the same thing as my husband. Why am I getting fat and he is getting his ripped abs?  I to explain the difference in body size but it has never worked with a person who asks that question. These clients are trying to change the laws of nature to match their expectation of what should be fair.

Gender – It is easier for males to get ripped abs since they burn more calories than females and burning more calories means they can get rid of the layer of fat covering their six pack faster.

Types of food – Your body burns off the calories from an organic green salad and chicken breast than a cheeseburger from a fast food restaurant even if calories were the same.

Types of exercise – Compound exercises like squats, push ups and pull ups along with interval training burn more calories during and after workouts which means these are ripped abs workouts. Unfortunately most people who want to get their six pack  abs focus on isolation exercises like crunches and they do traditional aerobics.

Putting this all together, if you are an eighteen year old 6′ 4″ male who does squats, bench presses and lat pulls with a mix of interval training  with a vegetarian diet plan, you can your ripped abs in no time.  But if you are a fifty year old 5′ 1″ female who does traditional aerobics on a high carb diet, chances are that you’ll never get your ripped abs.

Sorry about the brutal honesty.

Most of you fall somewhere in between and with adjustments to nutrition and ripped abs workouts you can get your six pack abs fast.
